ACTSA and NUS in collaboration with Coca-Cola Youth Foundation are hosting a day of events on sexual health and HIV/AIDS in the run up to World AIDS Day focusing on how students can take the lead in tackling the AIDS pandemic both in the UK and internationally.
Participants will hear from Siphiwe Hlophe, renowned HIV/AIDS activist from Swaziland, a UK based sexual health worker and Michael Gapes MP, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee in a lively panel session. There will also be workshops run by NUS Women?s Officer Kat Stark and the ACTSA campaigns team and the chance to hear from the students that went on the 2007 ACTSA Youth Delegation to southern Africa about their experiences of HIV/AIDS in the region and how students can support their counterparts abroad.
This is an event open to all students and young people who want to get informed and involved on HIV/AIDS and the issues surrounding it. Those unable to make the whole day can just come to one or more of the sessions.

An ACTSA and London Young Labour event
ACTSA is delighted to be hosting Siphiwe Hlophe to be keynote speaker at this event. Siphiwe is a renowned southern African HIV/AIDS activist and Director of the NGO, Swaziland Positive Living, as well as a Member of the UN Secretary General?s Task Force on Women, Girls and HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa.
With 33.2 million people in the world estimated to be HIV positive and 2.5 million newly infected in 2007, the discussion will focus on the challenges facing the many organisations, institutions and individuals who are engaged in the fight against HIV/AIDS. A panel of guest speakers will debate and discuss what the main barriers are to halting the spread of the disease and managing its pernicious effects, from gender inequality and social stigma to government and donor policy.

29th November ? Stopaids Lobby of Parliament
10am - 3pm, Parliament Square
Parliament Square will be transformed by a giant aids awareness ribbon made of 8000 red carnations; 1 for every person who dies of AIDS-related illnesses each day. This will be used as a striking centrepiece for a StopAIDS lobby of MPs on HIV/AIDS funding and strategy.
We need to encourage as many MPs as possible to come down to the square between 10am and 3pm to learn about the campaign and pledge their commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS. Click here to urge your MP to attend.

ACTSA is looking for 5 competitors to run the annual London Marathon and raise money for ACTSA.

20th September - Demonstration outside the Zimbabwean Embassy
ACTSA, supported by the TUC held a high profile demonstration outside the Zimbabwean Embassy in London. The protest was in solidarity with workers and ZCTU members in Zimbabwe, who were participating in a national stay away in defiance against the announced 6 month wage freeze. In a country where inflation sits at above 7000%, the impact of such a wage freeze will be devastating. For more information about this and our other Zimbabwean campaigns, click here.
2nd June - Your Voice Against Poverty: Ring the Alarm Campaign Action
Alongside our partners within Your Voice Against Poverty, ACTSA supporters took to the streets of London on Saturday 2nd June to send a message to Tony Blair and the G8 leaders as they head off to the summit in Germany. ACTSA is a member of Stop AIDS Campaigncoalition and was supporting their stall on the day. Click herefor more information about the event.
19th April - Join us stop EPAs
Alongside our partners within the Trade Justice Movement, ACTSA supporters took to the streets to send a message to every EU government that damaging Economic Parnership Agreements (EPAs), the EUs unfair trade deals, must be stopped. Voicing our sincere concerns against these damaging agreements was a vital move towards stopping EPAs.
4th April - Demonstrate in solidarity with the ZCTU
A big thank you to all who turned up to help demonstrate outside the Zimbabwean Embassy in solidarity with the ZCTU who held national strikes on 3rd-4th April. Around a hundred supporters stood in solidarity with ACTSA and the ZCTU against the atrocities facing the people of Zimbabwe.
10th Mar - Rally for Dignity
Thank you to the 3000 people came to Trafalgar Square, London, to join ACTSA's Rally for Dignity on Saturday 10th March! Two days after international Women's Day, the day was be a celebration of the role of women in the global struggle for justice - with particular focus on the struggle for freedom in Zimbabwe and the role of women in this struggle. Speakers included Lovemore Matombo and Lucia Matibenga from the ZCTU, Kate Hoey MP and actress Niamh Cusack. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make this such a resounding success in raising awareness of this vital issue. 
17th Feb - Fringe Meeting at Labour Youth Conference
ACTSA, jointly with Labour Students, held a hugely successful meeting at Labour Party Youth conference in Glasgow on the 17th February. The meeting was called "Women - Bearing the Brunt in Zimbabwe", and speakers included Ian McCartney MP, Kat Stark NUS, Mel Whitter Labour NEC, Euan Wilmshurst ACTSA. 2nd Feb - Protest at the French Embassy, London
ACTSA held a protest outside the French Embassy in London to ensure the French Government heard the message that the international community would not sit by and let them break the EU Sanctions against Zimbabwe, by letting any member of the Zimbabwean Government attend the Franco-African Summit. ACTSA Annual Fundraising Dinner
ACTSA's Annual Fundraising dinner was held on Friday 8th December at South Africa House, hosted by the High Commissioner, Her Excellency Lindiwe Mabuza. It was an amazing evening raising around ?15,000 for ACTSA's campaigns. Thanks to all who supported and attended the event, and if you didn't make it this year, we hope you will next year!
Event with Stephen Lewis, UN Special Envoy on HIV/AIDS in Africa
ACTSA recently hosted a special event at Canada House, with Stephen Lewis, in the run up to World AIDS Day (1st December).He updated the audience on the current situation in Africa, and ended with a rallying call for action.
Solidarity with Zimbabwean Trade Unions
On Saturday 4th November, ACTSA jointly hosted a major conference on solidarity with Zimbabwean Trade Unions with the TUC and Amicus. Speakers included Lovemore Matombo, President of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, Frances O'Grady, TUC Dep Gen Sec, Lord Triesman, FCO Minister and Kate Hoey MP.
