Happy 90th birthday Nelson Mandela!
From Nelson Mandela’s 60th Birthday in 1978 until the fall of apartheid, the sending of birthday cards and greetings to Mandela was a key part of the campaign calling for his freedom. In 1988 on his 70th birthday, 30,000 birthday cards from the British public were delivered to the South African Embassy.
This summer, to celebrate Mandela’s 90th year, ACTSA are calling on the British public to once again send him your birthday greetings. We want to celebrate his 90th year by sending him pledges to support democracy, justice, rights and development for South and Southern Africa.
Dear Mr Mandela
A message from the people of Britain.
We join the peoples of the world in sending you our congratulations on your 90th birthday. We salute your lifelong contribution to the movement for freedom, democracy, peace and rights for all.
We pledge our continued solidarity and support for the people of southern Africa as they continue to fight against poverty, HIV and AIDS, inequality, racism, other injustices and work for peace and a better future for all.
So far 1577 people have signed the birthday card. Please help spread the word.
