We are committed to ensuring that the personal information provided and attained via our website, over the phone, in writing, or in person is, is treated with respect, kept confidential, and used for the purpose for which it was supplied.

What information does ACTSA collect?

Personal information is collected directly from you when you opt-in during an interaction with ACTSA, for example this could be when you sign up to our mailing list via the website, attend an event organised or co-organised by ACTSA, or take part in a campaign action or make a donation.

The information we collect will typically include your name, postal and email addresses, your phone number and your date of birth and your bank details if you support ACTSA financially. As a solidarity organisation if you are affiliated with a trade union we may collect details of your affiliation or membership to a trade union. Under the General Data Protection Regulation trade union membership is classed as sensitive data, we will always ask your permission to collect such data and will be clear as to what we will do with this data. We will only collect this data with specific consent and permission.

What does ACTSA do with your information?

We collect your information in order to process your requests and to keep you updated on ACTSA’s work. For example:

  • To process donations or other payments
  • To process Gift Aid donations
  • To send you information about ACTSA including information on the work we are doing or other information relevant to members and supporters (e.g. the date of our next AGM)
  • To provide you with information or publications such as ACTSA News, ACTSA E-Update, the Angola Monitor or Zimbabwe Update
  • To invite you to ACTSA events, or to participate in campaigns
  • To record campaign actions you have signed up to To let you know about changes at ACTSA e.g. moving office, new contact numbers, or changes to our policies
  • To check on your preferences and ensure you are happy with your communication from ACTSA
  • To record any contact we have with you to help us understand how we can best communicate with you

In line with the General Data Protection Regulation (2016) if you want to receive information from us you will have to opt in. We have a number of different mailing preferences, which means you can choose which communications you wish to receive from us. If you wish you can opt out of all of these at any time. Does ACTSA work with third parties, and how do they use your data?

We work with third party organisations in order to deliver services such as online donations, postal and email mailing. In these cases it is necessary for us to share some of your information with these third party services.

ACTSA shares the minimum amount of information necessary in order to deliver the specific service with which the third party is charged. We also mandate that all our third party providers agree to follow the terms of our privacy policy and handle your data with as much care as we do. 

The third party services who currently receive from our data are HMRC (Gift Aid processing), Mail Chimp, Leopard Print Ltd. (design & mailing service), RSM and CP Terminal (secure payment facility).

How long does ACTSA keep your information?

We keep your information whilst you have an active relationship with us. If you no longer wish to receive information from us or request no further contact we will retain some basic information in order that we don’t contact you again.

Anything else you should know?

Like most websites, ACTSA may place a ‘cookie’ on the visitor’s computer. We use cookies to track website usage and to generate statistical information. We do not exchange cookies with other organizations.

We do have links with other websites, supplied for the convenience of our members, supporters, visitors to the ACTSA website. The ACTSA private policy cannot apply to those sites and we are not responsible for any personal information they may collect.
