World Cup 2010: Football and Freedom

This summer South Africa hosts the FIFA World Cup, the largest international event on African soil ever.

ACTSA is using the opportunity to tell the story of southern Africa, the region's achievements and the continuing challenges. There are lots of ways to get involved and celebrate the World Cup and we have a range of information to help.

World Cup activity packs

ACTSA has produced a range of packs for individuals, organisations and schools to help you plan your World Cup activities this summer.

  • Activities pack - contains ten simple things for communities, individuals and workplaces to do to promote southern Africa ranging from a sweepstake to celebrating Football Fridays.

  • Local Authorities pack - encourages local authorities to promote and coordinate activities to celebrate the World Cup, reaffirm solidarity, celebrate diversity and tackle racism.

  • Football and freedom schools pack - created with the NUT the pack is designed for teachers to use children’s interest in football to explore South Africa’s history, culture and context.
