LAACTSA

Local Authority Action for Southern Africa (LAACTSA) was formed in 1995 from the authorities which had previously supported the Anti-Apartheid Movement.

LAACTSA was set up, to assist in the reconstruction of Southern Africa following the defeat of Apartheid and undertakes work on many critical issues facing the peoples of the region.

The administration of LAACTSA is co-ordinated by Glasgow City Council. LAACTSA is keen to tie its work into any strategic approach the various High Commissions and Embassies of the southern African countries, and generate the maximum support we can for this work from local authorities and local communities in the UK.

LAACTSA aims and objectives

You can read all about LAACTSA's aims and objectives in the LAACTSA constitution.

The annual membership subscription is:

  • £250 for authorities with annual revenue of £100 million and over

  • £125 for authorities with annual revenue under £100 million and associate members.

Cheques should be made payable to LAACTSA, and sent to LAACTSA, c/o Councillor Aileen Colleran, City Chambers, George Square, Glasgow, G2 1DU.

We would greatly appreciate it if Local Authorities could submit information on any projects they are involved in relating to Southern Africa. We want to encourage an exchange of information which might help others become involved.

Many thanks for your consideration and we look forward to your support.
