Is ACTSA a registered charity?

ACTSA is a not-for-profit membership-based organisation. We are not a registered charity and therefore do not have a Registered Charity Number. To be a registered charity you have to obey to the rules of the Charity Commission, which among other things state that you can?t openly be involved in political lobbying or campaigning activity. As the current laws stand, by becoming a Registered Charity ACTSA would have to drastically change its remit as a political campaigning organisation. In spite of the benefits of being a charity, this is not something that ACTSA is prepared to do as our priority remains to campaign for justice and human rights and to hold governments accountable.

How is ACTSA funded?

ACTSA is a membership-based organisation and therefore is funded by its members, supporters and affiliated organisations. Occasionally ACTSA also apply for money through various bodies and organisations.

Does ACTSA support any political party?

ACTSA does not support or oppose any political party. We do however advocate for democracy and human rights in all southern African countries through free and fair elections. We work closely with the international labour movement and promote human rights for all people, regardless of their political allegiances.
